GANE Promotes Good Jobs in the Port Economy
On Tuesday, October 14th, the Drum Major Institute’s Marketplace of Ideas hosted a dialogue in New York on the transformation of the Port of Los Angeles. Under the leadership of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the port has become a model for the new green economy, combining strong measures to reduce pollution with meaningful standards to prevent worker exploitation and transform the port into an engine of living-wage jobs for the region’s residents. Chris Ward, the director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, was on the panel, as was a representative of New Jersey’s own Coalition for Healthy Ports.
